Jared Gilbert Baker

Jared Gilbert Baker, 81, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2025 in Niles, Michigan surrounded by his loving family.
Jared was born on March 22, 1944 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Richard Baker and Dorothy Mae (Hesselbart) Baker.
Left to cherish the memory of Jared is his loving wife of many years, Penny (Mather) Baker; son, Ryan (Casey) James; grandsons, Ryan James Jr. and Isaac James; brother, Richard (Charity) Baker; sister, Sharlene (Cecil) MacLaren, and many nieces and nephews.
In 1981, Jared's journey led him to Niles, Michigan, where his life would soon intersect with his soulmate, Penny. They met in 1989, and their love flourished into a beautiful marriage four years later in 1993. Together, they created a life filled with joy, laughter, and the warmth of family celebrations. Their marriage was a testament to companionship and mutual support, hallmarked by a shared love for life's simple pleasures, such as listening to music and caring for their beloved dogs.
For Jared, the open road was his second home. A dedicated truck driver for the majority of his career, he prided himself on his role at Preston Trucking, where he spent 22 faithful years. When the company closed its doors, Jared's passion for driving continued unabated as he smoothly transitioned to Colbert Packaging. His colleagues remember him as a steadfast professional, whose work ethic was only matched by the love he had for his job.
Retirement brought with it the luxury of time, which Jared spent indulging in music, a lifelong interest that provided him with both solace and joy. It also afforded him treasured moments with his canine companions, who were never far from his side. An avid sports fan, Jared's spirit soared with every game played by the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions, and Michigan Spartans. His enthusiasm for his favorite teams was infectious, bringing excitement to every game day.
The family extends their deepest appreciation to the compassionate team at Elara Caring Hospice, whose service for Jared in his final days was nothing short of exemplary. Their dedication not only brought comfort to Jared but also provided peace to his loved ones during this tender time.
Memorial contributions in honor of Jared may be made out to Elara Care Hospice.
Visitation for Jared will be on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Brown Funeral Home, 521 East Main St. Niles, MI 49120.
