Jason Douglas Brant, 54, died tragically while snorkeling in the Caribbean waters of East End, Grand Cayman during a family vacation. Jason was overcome by strong currents and drowned, he was recovered on June 21, 2022 after an extensive search.
Jason was born on June 11, 1968 to Paul and Patricia (Gerard) Brant in Chicago, the eldest of two sons. Growing up in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood, Jason attended Nettelhorst Elementary and Newberry Academy, swam on the Jane Addams Center Sharks swim team. He attended Whitney Young High School (Class of '86), went on to study Business Administration at Truman College in Chicago, and earned an Associates Degree in 1996.
Jason worked in logistics, sales, mortgages and real estate, before becoming a stay-at-home dad to his newborn son in 2004. He was a doting and attentive father, taking his son on daily adventures. After the family relocated from Chicago to Colorado in 2015, Jason opened a successful AirBnb in Denver. Jason was a cannabis enthusiast, became licensed and worked in the cultivation/processing industry when he moved to Denver. He loved Denver, the beauty of the Rocky Mountains, and he enjoyed sharing Colorado life with his AirBnb guests.
Jason will be remembered for his kind heart and sensitive soul, his deep voice, blue eyes and blond curls. He loved heavy metal music and live concerts, spending his youth thrashing at shows. He enjoyed hiking, rock collecting, gardening, collecting Lionel trains, and watching live music. He collected records, rare tour posters and band merchandise. He discovered scuba diving in his 20s, traveled extensively and logged over 200 dives, he felt drawn to the water. Jason died doing something he loved, exploring the ocean, looking at fish.
Jason was a loving and devoted father to his son, Caden Douglas, 17 years old. Jason also leaves behind his former wife/partner of 33 years, Liz (Bushby-Smith); his father, Paul, of Apollo Beach, FL; his younger brother, Jeremy, of Chicago, IL, and his three cats, Sunday, Dakota and Memphis. Jason was laid to rest at his mother's side at Wunder's Cemetery in Chicago on July 11, 2022. A celebration of Jason's life will be held on Saturday, August 6 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at Foundation Tavern and Grille, 5007 West Irving Park Road in Chicago.
