On Thursday, September 18, 2025, Jason "JJ" Carter Jr. passed peacefully, surrounded by the immense love of his family.

Born on May 25, 2017, to Jason and Emily (Janca) Carter, JJ was a source of pure joy. At 18 months old, he was diagnosed with a rare gene mutation that brought challenges his family could never have anticipated. Through every struggle, JJ's spirit shined brightly. His bright blue eyes and amazing smile could light up any room, and his incredible laugh was a beautiful sound that always brightened his family's day.

JJ was the cherished son of Jason and Emily Carter, and the beloved brother of Mackinze and Haven. He was the treasured grandson of Kellie and Tim Yarborough, Ann and Michael Sanders, Kevin and Tanya Carter, and Tonya Parsons. He was also adored by his great-grandmothers, Sherry Lowery and Sharon Carter. He leaves behind a legacy of love with his aunts and uncles: Brittany Carter, Kelsie and Marshall Frazier, Jon Carter, and Amber Parsons, as well as his great-aunt and great-uncle, Tara and Chris Urban, and Ronica and Norman Marshall, along with many other loving family members.

He is now reunited with family who went before him: his great-grandparents, Nick "Pops" Carter, Shorty and Reba Urban, Ronal Boyd, and Jeri "Mimi" Nylander; and his uncle, Benjamin Janca, whom he never met but shared so many special traits with.

JJ's family wishes to share their heartfelt gratitude for the community of care that surrounded him. Thank you to his constant companions and nurses-Janice, Angie, Roxanne, and Michelle-and the entire staff of Aveanna Healthcare. A special thanks is extended to Lindsey Travis and the staff of Crescent View Medical Clinic for their help and support over the years, and to Dr. Meyer and the staff of Hospice of South Texas for their compassionate care.
