Jason Scott Delp, “Jay” 41, passed away peacefully at his home in Princeton, West Virginia, on June 16th, 2025 at 8:15pm. Born in Texas, Jason lived a life full of laughter, love, and hard-fought battles—with more than a few video games and grilled steaks in between.
Jason was many things: a husband, a father, a brother, a friend, and a world-class chef. He was the kind of man who could make you laugh until you cried, cook a mean meal from whatever was in the fridge (especially his chili and seafood) and outplay you in just about any game—especially when music was blasting in the background. His favorite moments were the simple ones: a quiet camping trip, shopping the seafood and meat section at food city, a late-night dance with his wife to their favorite songs, or just watching the walking dead for the millionth time.
Jay faced a long battle with alcoholism, and while that disease may have taken his life—and strained relationships he once held dear—it never took his sense of humor, his big heart, or his ability to light up a room. If sarcasm could’ve been used as treatment, Jay would’ve been immortal. He leaves behind a legacy of courage, chaos, and care—proof that you can struggle and still be deeply human.
He is survived by his wife and best friend, Ashley Delp, who stood by him through every storm up until the very end - all while making him listen to Taylor swift. He was a father to Taylor Marie, Kaiden, and Lily, and a bonus dad to Madison, Logan, Jordan, and Liam McVey—each of whom he loved in his own unique way. He is also survived by his stepdad and close friend Gary Roberts, stepmom Kathy Delp, his brother and sister-in-law Kevin and Ginny Delp, and his four beloved nieces: Makayla, Paige, Shane, and lexi.
Jay is reunited in peace with his mother, Lisa Roberts, and his father, Dale Delp, and his precious grandma who meant the world to him Evelyn Elledge, who all no doubt welcomed him with open arms—and probably some teasing.
He was deeply loved and will be forever missed. His life reminds us that healing isn't always clean or easy, but love is always worth the mess.
Jay will be cremated as he wished with no service.
In honor of Jay, crank up your favorite playlist, hug your people tight, and never underestimate the healing power of good food and good company.
