Jake passed away on July 12, 2025, in Vancleave, Mississippi, due to an extended illness. He was 59 years old.
Jake was born on May 1, 1966, and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida. Jake’s legacy is his children’s love for him and for each other, and the quiet moments of connection, growth, and grace that each experienced in their relationships with him. Jake was hardworking, charming, loving, and kind. Jake loved the quiet peace in fishing and the raucous chaos of NASCAR and KISS. He had a deep love for animals and considered himself an animal rights advocate. He was full of silly stories and unexpected insights, and those closest to him saw glimpses of his deep and caring heart. In his later years, he expressed genuine joy and pride in witnessing his children choose paths that create a more peaceful, creative, safer, sober, loving, and open-minded world.
Though his children carry the pain of what was and the ache of what could have been, they also carry compassion for the man who was shaped by his own harsh upbringing; and in his passing, they choose love, hope, charity, connection, and forgiveness.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lorine Eddings; his father, Louie Eddings; and his brother, Steven Eddings.
He is survived by his brothers, Michael Eddings, Eric Eddings, and Darren Eddings; and by his five children: Sunni Chauncey, Jason Jacobs, Jackie Wynn, Seth Eddings, and Heather Eddings. He is also survived by many grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your local domestic violence shelter or animal rescue organization—or that you honor Jason’s memory by performing a random act of kindness today.
