Jay Westcott Bastian

Jay Bastian, 3/5/1932 – 3/4/2024
Jay W. Bastian of Grand Ledge, MI, was born in Calumet, MI on March 5, 1932. Jay passed away on March 4, 2024. He graduated from Calumet High School in 1950, and then went to Michigan Technological University graduating in 1954. Jay served in the Michigan National Guard for over 11 years.
He was a devoted husband and father, having married his high school sweetheart, Gloria Bastian (2020) on April 30, 1955. They were blessed with one son, Eric (Kelly) Bastian, in 1970. Jay was employed with Michigan Department of Transportation serving as the Director of Roadside Development at the time of retirement in 1991.
He loved the outdoors and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Jay was a proud "Yooper", an outstanding angler, hunter, and proponent of the State of Michigan. Following retirement, he and Gloria also enjoyed many winters with their snowbird friends in Gulf Shores, Alabama. To say he will be missed is an understatement. Jay will always be in our hearts however it is reassuring knowing that he will be eternally in the arms of Gloria.
Jay is survived by his son, Eric (Kelly) Bastian, brother, David Bastian, niece Lynn Venturino, grand-dog Finn, and many other friends and family.
Special thanks goes out to the caring staff at Fairview Adult Foster Care in Grand Ledge, CorsoCare Hospice, his niece Lynn Venturino, and his MDOT coffee buddies. Per Jay's wishes, a private graveside service will be held at St. David's Episcopal Church in Lansing, at a later date, where he will be laid to rest with his wife, Gloria. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. David's Church in his memory. The family has entrusted arrangements to Mills Funeral Home, Peters and Murray Chapel, Grand Ledge.
