Jay Kent Petterborg

Jay Kent Petterborg, 83, of Boise, Idaho, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

Born on January 29, 1942, in Preston, Idaho, to Glen Elvoid and Silva Hatch Petterborg, Kent spent his childhood in Preston, where he graduated from Preston High School. He went on to attend Utah State University, earning a degree in History and Political Science-a reflection of his lifelong curiosity about the world and the people in it. He served in the Idaho National Guard and spent two and half years in Argentina on an L.D.S. Mission.

Throughout his life, Kent followed his interests and built meaningful connections wherever he went. He was proud to spend part of his career managing Boise's historic Egyptian Theatre and later worked as a dedicated mail courier for Boise State University, where his friendly conversations and genuine warmth left a lasting impression.

Kent will be lovingly remembered for his gift of conversation and his deep appreciation for history.

He is survived by his sons Phillip and Darren Petterborg, his daughter Jillian (Alex Bates), and his grandchildren Collin and Benjamin Bates. He is also survived by his siblings, Ardis Garner, Debbie (Taft) Barrington, and Paul Petterborg. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Silva Petterborg.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 15, at 11am at the Preston City Cemetery (1451 N 800 E, Preston, ID 83263).
