Today we celebrate the life and spirit of Jean Gardner Clarke, who was born on October 5, 1932, in Stirling, Scotland. Jean peacefully passed away on June 18, 2024, at age 91 in Texas and is now amongst her beloved angels.
Jean is survived by her loving husband, John Clarke, and their sons, Andrew and John. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jane (Gardner) Harvey and Alexander Harvey. Jean leaves behind five wonderful grandchildren and one great grandchild.
In Jean's early adult years, she traveled the UK countryside teaching knitting skills for Patons & Baldwins. Jean later immigrated to Canada where she met her future husband John at a Peterborough roller rink. The couple married on October 26, 1957, and began their married life in Toronto, where both their sons were born. After two years on the Caribbean Island of Curaçao, Jean and her family followed her husband's work to the United States in 1970 and Texas became home for the rest of Jean's adult life.
Jean's passion for knitting and crochet evolved into a lifelong journey of learning and enjoyment spanning numerous additional crafts including needlepoint, ceramics, and eventually quilting. Her love of quilting spanned several decades and resulted in the creation of many wonderful quilts, big and small.
Her love for her family, her spirit, and her loyalty to those she loved will remain etched in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Rest in peace with the angels. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Jean, please visit our Tree Store.
