Jean Seighman Cummings was an amazing person and left this world too soon to be with the Lord. She passed away at home on August 1, 2022 surrounded by her family. She was 76 years old.
Jean was born in Detroit, Michigan and grew up in Royal Oak where she graduated from Clarence M. Kimball High School. After graduating, she worked at Detroit Edison in Detroit, Michigan.
Jean lived in Troy, Michigan for over 40 years and had an incredible support group of family, friends, neighbors and church parishioners. They always looked out for each other, especially in times of need.
Jean spent over 40 years with the Southfield Public School District until she retired in 2007. While there, she wore many hats as a parent volunteer, para-professional, ESL teacher, and elementary school teacher. There she made lifelong friends who became a second family to her.
Jean was a longstanding member of Big Beaver United Methodist Church in Troy, Michigan. She belonged to the United Methodist Women, taught Sunday School, and was Chair of the Education Committee. She made amazing friends along the way and if you ask those closest to her, they would tell you stories of her sending them a card to cheer them up or dropping them off a meal when they needed it most. She also thoroughly enjoyed her Church Book Club Group and the many luncheons they shared.
Jean's most enjoyable hobbies were reading, traveling, love of art and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and used these experiences as teaching moments. Jean was incredibly proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and she never missed a game, concert, or recital. They were the epicenter of her life. She also enjoyed spending time in her yard where she loved her flower garden.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Mark) Daugherty, her son, Larry Kraatz and family friend Nina Meadows, Grandchildren: Heather, Derek, Devon, Danielle, and Ryan, and her Great Grandchildren: Leah, Ciara, Marcus, Richard, and Nolan, sisters Mary Ann (Bruce) Becker and Dory (Ken) Murphy. She was also a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Doris and Wesley Seighman.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Big Beaver United Methodist Church, 3753 John R Rd, Troy, MI 48083. All are invited to a luncheon following the service. Jean's final resting place will be at White Chapel Cemetery with private family interment service.
She will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved her.
Lovingly written by the family ~
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests memorial donations to be made to the American Cancer Society.
