Jean married William "Bill" Eric Gadd on July 30, 1960. They had two sons, David William Gadd and wife, Laura Bishop of Shaker Heights and John Eric Gadd of Los Angeles, CA. Jean loved to sing in choruses starting with the May Festivals of Guy Frasier Harrison in 5th grade. At Buchtel, she enjoyed singing the carol "Down the Ages Afar" in the hallways at Christmas time. Her Senior year at Heidelberg College was memorable as she joined the Concert Choir and singing under Dr. Ferris Ohl. Church Choirs were inspiring at Grace UCC and Church of the Master United Methodist Church. Most of all, she was in awe of her husband, Bill Gadd's beautiful organ music. Finally singing under Bob Quade at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in his Choral Society from 1983 - 1998 which was challenging. From 1989 - about 2006, she enjoyed singing at the various retirement homes with The Akron Woman's City Club Chorus. Then, she joined the Sumner Singers at Concordia at Sumner in 2014 for a year but failing hearing and eye sight ended singing with them.
Another interest was the adult literacy program at Project Learn of Summit County. Starting in 1983 with tutoring adults to help them to read better, she tutored One on One for about ten years. Jean joined the Board about 1989. Barbara Norton was an inspiration as she helped to develop the organization. Rick McIntosh greatly increased the services after he came to Akron as Director.
