Jean Hardesty Obituary

Born in Baltimore, MD on July 19, 1945, Jean spent most of her life there before moving to Hanover, PA in 2018 to be closer to family. She was married for 57 wonderful years to the love of her life, Clyde T. Hardesty, who preceded her in death in August 2024. Together, Jean and Clyde owned and operated the Apollo 13 Bar in South Baltimore, where they built friendships and memories that lasted a lifetime.
Jean is survived by her devoted children, Kristy Witt, husband John Witt Jr. and Charles Hardesty, wife Donna Hardesty; her cherished grandchildren, Bryan Witt, Alex Witt, Austin Harmon, Ashley Harmon, Nicholas Hardesty, and Joseph Hardesty; and her adored great-grandchildren, Clay Witt, Chloe Witt, Kasper Shriver, Damian Witt, Delaney Harmon, and Cooper Harmon.
In her younger years, Jean enjoyed bowling with friends and tending to her garden. She also loved the excitement of a good scratch-off, the thrill of a slot machine, and betting on racehorses - simple joys that always brought a smile to her face. Jean had a lifelong love for all things Disney, especially Dopey and Goofy. Above all else, Jean loved her family deeply and had a special fondness for penguins, whose loyal and loving nature reflected her heart.
Jean will be remembered for her strength, her humor, and the love she shared so freely with everyone around her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 7th, 2025 at 11:00AM at Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., of Spring Grove, 175 N. Main Street, Spring Grove, Pennsylvania. Burial service to follow where she will be laid to rest, beside her husband Ted, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 725 Baltimore Street, Hanover, PA 17331. A viewing will be held on Friday from 10:00AM – 11:00AM at the funeral home.

I met Jean and Ted through my boss, Richard Bader, over 20 years ago. They were the most wonderful, kind and loving people who always took the time to call me to catch up on life and family. They were the most genuine and down to earth people. I miss them both dearly. Sending my most heartfelt sympathy to Jean's loving family.
