She was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam and was a 1965 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam.
Jean first worked at the former Coleco Industries in Amsterdam. She later was educated and became a NY State Registered Pharmacy Technician. She was employed as a Pharmacy Tech for many years retiring from Hannaford Supermarket in Amsterdam. She above all was a beautiful mother and caregiver to her family. Jean married Donald A. Piurowski on June 29,1968. He passed away on December 10, 2003.
She was of the Roman Catholic Faith and was a communicant of the former St. Michael's Roman Church and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Amsterdam.
She is survived by her two beloved daughters, Lisa and her husband Jeffrey Taylor and Christina M. Elithorpe. She was very proud of her six grandchildren, Garrett Chet Taylor, Kyle Henry Taylor, Daun J. Taylor, Jacob M. (Stefanie) Ellithorpe, Devin Donald Elithorpe and Cheyenne (Scott) Horton-Clark; three great-grandchildren, Carter, Amelia and Donald; her brother, David Gawron of Amsterdam; nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was predeceased by her brother Gregory P. Gawron on December 18, 2017.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 1, 2025 at 11:30 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 39 Saint John St., Amsterdam with The Very Rev. O. Robert DeMartinis E.V. as celebrant. Committal will follow in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Amsterdam. A calling period will be held prior to the funeral Mass on Friday from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the Rose & Hughes Funeral Home, 200 Church St., Amsterdam. It is the family's request that flowers be omitted and contributions be made to the Shrine of North American Martyrs, 136 Shrine Rd., Auriesville, NY 12016.
