Warwick, RI – Jean Marie (Chatel) Prinz, 73, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI.
Jean was born on August 4, 1951, in Providence, RI, to Daniel A. and Margaret M. (Jutras) Chatel. She was the wife of Michael T. Murray and the mother of Peter Crisostomi, David Crisostomi and Jessica Prinz. She was the beloved Grandma of Matthew, Cameron and Stella and the sister of Robert Chatel, Sandra Spellman, William Chatel and the late Richard Chatel.
Jean graduated from Cranston High School East. She attended The Sawyer School in Providence from where she received a Medical Secretary/Assistant certificate. She also took classes at Manatee Community College and National Assessment Institute. She later worked as a Medical Secretary at various health care centers before ending her career as a bookkeeper in the food service field.
"Mom" spent most of her years in her preferred role: stay at home mother. She was mom to many other than her own children; their cousins, neighbors, friends will remember her warmth and welcoming demeanor.
When she was able to, Jean loved to go yard saling on Saturday mornings with her family. As her health declined, she loved to participate in local online auctions. She enjoyed playing bingo, and playing cards, especially "31". In her younger years she was truly a "DIY" person, building things with her father. She was a talented seamstress who prided in making clothing and for herself and her children, and was relied on for mending and hemming for her whole family.
Visitation will be held at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick, on Sunday, July 20, 2025, from 1:00 – 3:00 PM followed immediately by a funeral service beginning at 3 PM. Memorial donations may be made in her name to Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904 (www.hopehealthco.org). Condolences may also be offered to her family and favorite memories of Jean shared online at www.carpenterjenks.com.
