Our loving wife and mother, Jean Andrews Spencer (83) peacefully passed away on July 12, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Jean was born on May 8, 1941, in Logan, Utah, to William Andrews and June (McBride) Andrews. She grew up in Logan where she would meet the love of her life (Clain) Reed Spencer at the age of 14. Shortly after they started dating, Reed told his parents he "met the girl he was going to marry...He just needed to wait for her to grow up". On April 3,1959 before graduating Logan High, because Reed was leaving for the Utah National Guard boot camp, she married Reed at her parents' house. They were later sealed on December 17, 1961, in the Logan Temple.
They made their first home in Logan where they welcomed their first child Terry in March of 1960. They later moved to Ogden, Utah where their second son Michael was born in June of 1962. They welcomed their only daughter Laurie in March of 1966. The family later moved to Washington Terrace and lived there during the time their kids were growing up. Reed established a successful Construction company in 1967. Jean did all of the bookkeeping for this company, while raising her family. When he incorporated his company, she was listed as the president, and he was the secretary. When the kids were grown, Jean got a job at the IRS where she worked for 20 years. She would soon move up to a supervisory position until her retirement in 2005. She had such a strong work ethic which was passed on to her boys. Each of them accomplishing advanced degrees and raising and providing for their families. She was so very proud of them.
Upon retirement Jean enjoyed traveling, camping, and cruising with her parents, brothers-in-laws and sister-in-law. One of their special times together was doing fondue nights. The group of them always had such a great time and really enjoyed their time together. She also enjoyed spending a lot of her summer camping at their canyon property near Causey Reservoir, where she welcomed friends and family alike to come up and enjoy. Their travels took them to Hawaii, Mexico, Panama, the Caribbean, and Alaska. They also loved spending their winters in Arizona after retirement.
Jean and Reed stepped up to help raise their Grandson and Granddaughter after their daughter Laurie passed away in January 2014. One of her greatest joys was her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved spending time with them. Her loving arms were wide open for the biggest hugs, her lap was a comfortable place to climb into to watch TV or read a book. She was so very proud of all of them, and her face beamed when she saw them. She was always there for our families. Mom always showed such love and support for all of us. She was a devoted Mom and Grandmother and always had a huge hug for us.
The greatest joy in her life was spending time with Reed. They were hardly apart, and in their 65 years of marriage through thick and thin their love never wavered. They are truly devoted to each other and are a wonderful example to all their family. They really took care of each other. They were always holding hands and always missed each other when they were apart.
Jean is survived by her husband Reed, son Terry (Sharon) Spencer, Michael (Laura) Spencer, her brother Craig (Mardyne) Andrews, 9 Grandchildren and 3 Great-Grandchildren.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, brothers Ron Andrews, Clair Andrews, and daughter Laurie Spencer.
Funeral service will be held Friday, July 19, 2024, at 11:00 am at Meyer Mortuary at 5865 S 1900 W, in Roy, UT. Friends and family may visit prior to the funeral from 9:30-10:45 am that same day. Interment will be at the Logan City cemetery located at 1000 North 1200 East, Logan, Utah.
