Jean Evelyn Strothmann, age 96, of Columbia, Missouri passed away Wednesday April 17, 2024 at Boone Hospital Center after a brief illness. Jean was born December 17, 1927, the oldest child of Lawrence Woodford Doran and Mildred L. (Melton) Doran.
Jean graduated from Nevada (MO) High School in 1945 and continued her education at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri where she received her bachelor's degree in home economics in 1950.
While at Mizzou, Jean met a handsome young Army veteran, Harvey Strothmann, while attending The Chapel Columbia United Church of Christ, and they were married on June 11, 1950, in Columbia, Missouri. From this union they had three children: Sharon, Wayne and Glen.
Jean was a member of the Columbia United Church of Christ for many years.
Jean worked at the Boy Scouts of America Great Rivers Council and later worked at the University of Missouri in the Dairy Department and at the Physical Plant.
Jean and Harvey loved to travel with her sister Betty and husband Bob in their RV, and later in life Jean traveled with her two sisters, including a memorable trip to Ireland. She also enjoyed quilting with a group at church, but most of all Jean's favorite thing to do in her free time was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jean is survived by her children Sharon Renken (Jim) of Cumming, GA, Wayne Strothmann (Denise) of Sunrise Beach, MO; daughter-in-law Snezana Strothmann of Columbia; eight (8) grandchildren, Bradley Renken, Bryan Renken, Blake Renken, Brett Renken, Cara Licausi, Kristin O'Farrell, Scott Strothmann, and Noah Strothmann; twelve (12) great grandchildren, Rylie Renken, Harvey Renken, Ellie Renken, Austin Renken, Emma Renken, Audrey Renken, Jude Licausi, Cecilia Licausi, Gemma Licausi, Hayden O'Farrell, Owen O'Farrell and Colin O'Farrell; her siblings Larry Doran, Betty Hopkins, and Barbara McConnell, as well as many other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Harvey, her son Glen, and her parents Lawrence and Mildred.
A memorial service will be held in mid-May for Jean.
