Obituary
NEWPORT -Jeanette Evelyn (Jean) Learnard, 77, passed away on May 12 after a year of failing health. She was the daughter of Fred and Mildred White and was born in Winchendon, MA, on December 27, 1945. She is predeceased by two brothers, Nelson and Philip White, and one sister Dorothy Bartholomew. She leaves behind her husband of fifty-six years, Norris Learnard, two daughters, Kristen Tanner of Rockland, MA, and her husband Michael and two sons Christopher Tanner and Patrick Tanner and Rebecca Merrow of Newport, NH, and her husband Kenneth and one son, Cody Merrow and one daughter Hannah Yonchak and her husband Andrew and their son, Owen. She also leaves behind a number of nieces and nephews. Jean graduated from Athol High School in Athol, MA, and received her Licensed Practical Nurse degree from Addison Gilbert School of Nursing in Gloucester, MA. She spent most of her working career in health care. She worked at Newport Hospital, Valley Regional Hospital, in Sullivan County as a visiting nurse, Good Beginnings in Claremont, the WIC program in Claremont, Servicelink in Claremont, and the Valley Regional Hospital Day-Out program. Because of her long career in nursing and health care, her family realizes that during this last year many people, doing what she did, rendered the same care to her. This includes doctors, nurses, rehab specialists, long-term heath care providers, palliative care providers, social workers, and ancillary workers such as the VNA and ambulance and transportation personnel. It is with this in mind that her family wishes, sincerely, to thank these individuals who were involved with her care. Jean was a kind and compassionate individual who loved life and interacting with others. She will be remembered fondly by those who knew her. Currently, there are no plans for calling hours or funeral services.
