Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hopler & Eschbach Funeral Home on Nov. 12, 2025.
Jeanette "Jan" Roosa, 84, of
Binghamton, NY, passed away peacefully, with her husband at her side, on November 5, 2025, after battling Alzheimer's disease for several years. She was born in Ithaca, NY in 1941, to the late Sylvia and John Murinchack, Jr. Jan was one of twelve children, and was especially close to her twin brother, the late James Murinchack of Ward, Arkansas.
Jan is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Robert "Bob" Roosa. They built a long, happy life together centered on family, hard work, recreation, and travel. She is also survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Bryan Roosa and Eileen Kostanecki of Arlington, VA; James and Valerie Roosa of
Binghamton, NY; and Jason and Lezlie Roosa of Centennial, CO, as well as ten grandchildren whom she cherished: Rebekah, Michael, Erin, Noah, Joanna, Jack, Evan, Sam, Kyle, and Morgan.
Jan lived her life with an energetic, cheerful, and mischievous spirit. After graduating from Ithaca High School, she worked as a switchboard operator for New York State Electric & Gas, but ultimately found that her true and favorite vocation was a devoted homemaker and the energetic heart of her family. She was a longtime member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Hillcrest, NY, and an active leader in the Avion Palms Homeowners Association, where her joy for building community shone brightly.
Jan loved traveling with Bob in their RV, spending time with family at their cottage on Crescent Lake, and weekend boating on Cayuga Lake. In their retirement, they spent winter months at their home in Bowling Green, Florida, and traveled extensively to spend time with family and friends across the country.
She delighted in long walks, puzzles, pinochle, ceramics, garage-saling, and golfing with her husband – but spending time with her grandchildren was by far her favorite activity.
Jan's enthusiasm was contagious and her sense of humor connected her to people, making them feel at ease. She had a remarkable ability to laugh at herself and bring others into the moment with her.
Above all else, Jan will be remembered for her deep love for her family and her unwavering willingness to be there when others needed her. Her warmth, humor, and generous heart will be dearly missed.
