Jeanette L. Wappelhorst

Jeanette L. Wappelhorst (nee Wetter) passed away and was fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at age 97. Beloved wife of 60 years of the late Herbert V. Wappelhorst; cherished mother of Dennis H. (Jane) Wappelhorst, Carol (J. Michael) Conoyer, Gerald (Mary Jane) Wappelhorst, Marvalee (David) Ewing, Donald (Ann) Wappelhorst, and the late Paul (Carla) Wappelhorst; dearest grandmother of Dennis M. (Lori) Wappelhorst and Tim Wappelhorst, Matt (Ellen) Conoyer, Ben (Rachel) Conoyer, and Ellie (Ryan) Janusick, Dawn (Frank) Gargano, Valerie (Josh) Shapiro, and Colleen (Wally Kissh) Wappelhorst, Eric (Anna Haynes) Ewing and Alex Ewing, Christopher and Sarah Wappelhorst, Carolyn (Alec) Graham and Madeline Wappelhorst; dear great-grandmother of Michael, James, Elijah, and Maria Conoyer, Samuel and William Conoyer, Maggie Janusick, Zachary, Abigail and Mason Shapiro, Jack, Beau, and Eli Nored; dear sister of Carolyn "Dolly" (Wetter) Rothermich; dear sister-in-law of Wilfred Wappelhorst; dear aunt, great-aunt and friend of many.
In addition to her husband and son, Jeanette is preceded in death by her grandchildren Joseph, Andrew, and Jacob Wappelhorst, Chelsea Nored; her parents, John and Caroline (Kruetzer) Wetter; her brothers and their wives, John "Jack" and Maudie (Pickering) Wetter, Norbert "Buzz" and Florence (Messner) Wetter, Melvin "Mel" and Kathleen "Bee" (Schneider) Wetter, and brother Kenneth "Dutch" Wetter.
Jeanette was born and raised in St. Charles where she and her beloved Herbie raised their six children on a farm just north of the city. She loved everything about living on the farm, especially filling her home with parties and huge meals for friends and family. Those meals consisted of vegetables from her bountiful garden, and usually chicken or beef which were raised on the farm. Jeanette's nieces and nephews still tell stories about their wonderful memories of playing in the barn and running in the fields.
She was a life-time member of St. Peter Catholic Church where she was baptized, married, and educated her children. She usually served on a parish committee, and was a member of the St. Anne Sodality, Catholic Women's Union, and the Ladies Monday morning quilting group. Jeanette was one of the founding ladies of the Northside Homemakers' Extension Club in 1949, and was never one to sit back and let others do the work. She loved being in the midst of everything that was happening, and with her quick wit and sense of humor, she was always the life of the party. She was quite upset when they stopped making Falstaff beer!
She and Dad were devoted first and foremost to God and their family, but also loved their Pinochle clubs, Dominoes, gardening, and traveling the country alone or with many other couples. And, of course, their beloved farm - a little slice of paradise here on earth.
We were so blessed to have our mom at home as we grew up, benefitting from her unconditional love and her great faith in God that was instilled in all of her children. The stories she has told and re-told will live on in all of our hearts. She always had a smile on her face. Just because of the love she showed each of us, each grandchild swears that they were her favorite one! Sam, age 7, as it stormed and thundered on one of her last days said, "I think Jesus is having a party because He knows Great-Grandma is coming to heaven." So true, Sam. So true.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jeanette's honor can be sent to , ALS St. Louis Chapter, or Duchesne High School.
