Jeanne Dorkin (nee Freehafer), of Cinnaminson, NJ, passed away peacefully at her home on June 17, 2022. Born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Clyde Emerson and Helen Mae (Schaffer) Freehafer, she was 93 years old.
Jeanne was the beloved wife of the late Arnold Roy Dorkin; loving mother of David Dorkin (Diane), Judith Bonocore (Robert), Helene Dorkin, and the late Clyde Eric Dorkin; cherished Grandmom to Ross and Hannah Levin, and DJ Ranoia.
Jeanne graduated from Douglass College at Rutgers University and was a teacher at Burlington and Haddon Heights High Schools. After raising her children, she later substituted in the Cinnaminson school system. She was a well-loved teacher, and always a welcomed sight in the Middle School and High School.
Jeanne was a warm and loving woman who always showed kindness to others. She was a devoted animal advocate and rescuer, who founded Animal Placement Service, a non-profit organization benefiting stray and abandoned animals. Jeanne helped place hundreds of animals over the years in loving homes, keeping and caring for the "unadoptables" herself. Her home was a place always filled with love and animals.
Jeanne will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Her last year was greatly enriched by her loving caregivers Shannon Singleton, Khadisha Benjamin, Chekeya Brown, and Alyssa Damiano.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the VisionLink (P.O. Box 1758, Bensalem, PA 19020); North Shore Animal League America (https://tinyurl.com/k37k6smh, 25 Davis Avenue, Port Washington, NY 11050); Samaritan Life Enhancing Care (www.samaritannj.org/giving/donate-now/).
