Richard Kenneth Landon
1/30/1943 - 10/27/2025
Richard K Landon, who went by Dick, was born January 30, 1943 to older parents, Kenneth & Anne Landon, who thought they might never have a child. Dickie, as they called him, was the apple of their eye and doted on as the baby of his extended family of numerous cousins, aunts and uncles in Vestal, NY. Dick spent weekends honing his baseball pitch on the mound in his backyard and fishing and camping with his outdoorsy folks. As a budding entrepreneur he started an elaborate nightcrawler bait business, the first of many endeavors throughout his lifetime. He went on to have an exciting high school basketball career that earned him his nickname the Silver Bullet. He remained close to high school friends who continued to gather for decades for their legendary Big Chill weekends. His charming good looks and zest for life led to summer jobs as a social director at a local Catskill resort, where he zipped around in a speed boat teaching kids to waterski. In 1961 he attended Rider University where he was the vice president of his fraternity ZBT, creating the fodder for many stories about the good times - the best of which was meeting the love of his life, Ann Fontana, who became his devoted wife of 60 years.
Dick continued his education with a Masters in psychology from State University of New York at Binghamton. His first job was with IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY, where he adeptly developed training programs to make IBM sales teams more effective, eventually moving to leading sales teams in the Philadelphia office. He settled in Delran, NJ, where he continued to live with his family for 51 years. Through IBM, Dick developed meaningful friendships with his Merc Nozzle crew who still gather for the Merc Nozzle Open each fall in upstate New York.
After a successful career at IBM, Dick's entrepreneurial spirit led him to be an early-adopter of computer networking systems and personal computing in the 1980s, starting and leading a successful business that became his lifelong career. He opened a Computerland franchise which eventually became Landress, and then Emtec, Inc., a company that he co-founded and grew from a hardware/software reseller into a broader IT services company catering to Fortune 500 companies.
After retiring in 1998, Dick continued to make an impact through his dedication to
Habitat for Humanity of Camden County, where he served on the Board of Directors for fourteen years. His efforts uplifted community members who were working to make a better life for themselves.
Dick enjoyed tremendous professional success, but it was family - and time spent with them - that defined his life and gave him the most joy. If you knew Dick, you knew about his family daughters Nicki McAuliffe and husband Tim, and their kids, Trey, Conor and Chloe, and daughter Stacy McCord and husband Derek, and their three kids, Colton, Kyle and Courtney. Dick and Ann showed up with flair at every birthday, holiday or to spoil the grandkids while their parents took a break. You could find him on the sidelines of football, lacrosse, soccer games, crew races, gymnastics tournaments, dance recitals, concerts and musicals donning a jersey, a robe or a hot dog costume whatever the situation called for.
Some of the best family memories were times spent in Cape May in the historical Victorian home he and Ann lovingly restored. Good times were spent on the front porch, people-watching and sipping his famous margaritas, or taking the kids to the arcade, relaxing on the beach together, and sometimes walking by the fudge samples in the mall repeatedly taste testing.
In the early 2000's Dick and Ann began snowbirding in North Palm Beach where they developed an extended group of new friends to add to their strong Tenby Chase social circle. Dick loved golfing at North Palm Beach Country Club, grabbing oysters and a beer with friends or any opportunity to crack a joke and have a drink with friends, old and new.
After an extended illness, Dick passed peacefully at home, surrounded by loving family, on October, 27 2025.
