Jeanne Luree Feyedelem (née Oberst) passed away peacefully on December 4, 2024. She was born on September 11, 1937, in Saginaw, Michigan, to Gregory James Oberst and Luree (Caster) Oberst. Jeanne grew up in Summit, New Jersey, where she began cultivating her lifelong passion for education and service.
After completing college, Jeanne began her teaching career in Sandusky, Ohio, where she married and later returned to her hometown of Saginaw, Michigan. Her professional dedication to education was based on the belief, "If you can read, you can change the world." Her early work in the public school district focused on children with special needs, and she later made a lasting impact at Delta College through the READ program, which helped students who were not yet at college-level readiness transition successfully into higher education.
Jeanne was a skilled textile artist, creating beautiful works through needlepoint, crochet, cross-stitch, and quilting. She also loved to read, particularly in the murder mystery genre, and was a talented musician who enjoyed playing musical instruments. She passed on her love of books and music to her family, fostering a passion for creativity and learning in those around her.
Jeanne is survived by her sister, Mary Katherine Weir; her brother, James Oberst (Marie); her children, Ray Feyedelem (Lori), Fran Feyedelem, Theresa Stalsberg (Gene), and Laurie Feyedelem; her grandchildren, Abbey Feyedelem, Kelly Forshee (Mike), Katie Hewitt, Patrick Hewitt, Shannon Stalsberg, Sammie Bronner (Dennis), Brendan Stalsberg, Taylor Stalsberg, Ananya Ray, and Arjun Ray; 12 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Viewing and Catholic Mass to celebrate Jeanne's life will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at St. Helen Catholic Church Site of Christ the Good Shepherd Parish, 2445 N. Charles St., Saginaw, Michigan, 48602, from 10:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Fr. Thai Nguyen will officiate. Graveside service will take place at St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery, Saginaw. A luncheon will be held at the church following the burial.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations and books be gifted to Saginaw Public Libraries (saginawlibrary.org) or to the School District of the City of Saginaw (spsd.net) in honor of Jeanne's love of reading and dedication to education.
