Jeannine Simmonds Gomillion walked into the healing arms of her savior, Jesus Christ, peacefully and surrounded by her children, Thursday, February 29, 2024. We feel certain Jeannine was welcomed by her younger brother, Randy, mother and former husband, Wallace. She was born to Thelma Mathias Simmonds Jones and Horace Simmonds in
Houston, Texas in 1939. Jeannine grew up in the Heights of Houston surrounded by loving grandparents, aunts and uncles who had moved to Texas from
Trenton, New Jersey. Jeannine excelled in school as a young girl graduating at 17 from Reagan High School. She married Wallace Gomillion and left college to start a family but returned to work when their youngest child was in school working as an accountant. At 50 she returned to college encouraged and supported by her mother, graduating from the University of Houston, Clear Lake with a Bachelors in Accounting, passing all 4 sections of the CPA exam in her first attempt. She went on to care for many clients at Longnecker, Thomas CPA, then Clyde Thomas CPA, then took over the practice when Mr. Thomas retired. She served many clients as a woman business owner partnering with women serving their community even till the week before entering her final hospital stay. Jeannine most loved the relationships she nurtured with many clients many of whom she considered close friends through serving as their CPA.
She leaves behind many dear friends some of which were friends for 60 years all of which she counted among her richest blessings. Her rich friend community was one of mutual support and blessing. Jeannine was very committed to, nurtured by and loved by her church, First Methodist Houston, many of her friendships grew from her involvement in church. She enjoyed singing in the church choir for years, attending the Houston and Pasadena Symphonies, playing the piano, knitting with a special group of friends and in recent years she had thoroughly enjoyed her online Bible study group through Bible Study Fellowship.
Family was very important to Jeannine, she missed her mother and her brother every day. Showing her love for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren was a huge focus of her prayers, time and attention. She attended countless sporting events, choir performances, musical & play performances, dance recitals, piano recitals, hosted vacation weeks with MaMa, Grandparents' Day celebrations (most recently as the art teacher's (Meghan) grandmother, Senior Thesis presentations, and graduations for her 8 grandchildren; Campbell Caskey (Meghan), Katie Schwab (Jeremy), Meghan Gomillion, Drew Gomillion, Jacob Gomillion, Aaron Gomillion, Macy Gomillion & Ella Gomillion. Her latest visit with her great grandchildren; Cole, Sam & Owen Caskey was a delight she treasured. Some of her favorite vacations were at Mo Ranch in the Texas Hill Country with her children, grandchildren, nephew, friends and their families. Jeannine treasured her relationship with her half brother, Kit Simmonds and his daughter Sara Simmonds Judd, Sara's performances delighted mom. Jeannine's treasured relationships with her sisters in law/love, their children and grandchildren brought her immeasurable joy.
Jeannine (MaMa) set an inspiring example (Proverbs 31:25) to her children & grandchildren through her amazing sense of perseverance which originated from some serious health limitations from childhood. Raised primarily by a single mother Jeannine never let the obstacles of her circumstances prevent or limit her from persevering to work hard and be her best. As a dear friend characterized Mom, "wrung out every part of her body and mind" as she served others. Her faith in Jesus sustained her through many hardships. Her children Laura Caskey (Stan), Monte Gomillion (Amy) and Kevin Gomillion (Jana) appreciate the prayers, love and care provided by her extended family, many friends, friends children, the nurses and doctors of HCA Southeast and Choice Hospice.
If you feel a nudge to honor mom with a financial gift please consider blessing First Methodist Houston, Revive (formerly First Methodist Pasadena) or a nonprofit dear to you in lieu of flowers.
Please join the family for a Celebration of Life, Saturday, March 16, 11:00am in the Log Cabin at Revive Church, 1062 Fairmont Parkway,
