Jeannine Ann Stoner

Jeannine A. Stoner, 95, of Palmyra, passed away peacefully at Londonderry Village surrounded by her family on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
Jeannine was born in Florin, now Mt Joy, PA, to the late John G. And Hazel Roth. She graduated from Donegal High School in 1947 as a business student and excelled in drama and sports. After graduation, she worked as a bookkeeper for the Paper Box Company in Mt Joy for a number of years until a blind date changed her life.
Jeannine met Harvey Weaver, Jr. on a date at the Mt Gretna Roller Rink. They enjoyed roller skate dancing and trips to the beach. A few years later they were married and started a family while living in Manheim. By 1956 there were three children but unfortunately Harvey died. With the support of family and friends, she was able to focus on her children, then the hand of God touched her life. Her parents' neighbor had a bachelor brother, Glenn Stoner, and she remarried in 1958 and the family moved to Palmyra. Another daughter was born in 1960 and the family was complete.
The next few years, Jeannine focused on raising her family but she was also a Sunday school teacher, Cub Scout Den Mother, a second mother to other children in the neighborhood and friend to many. When all of her children were in school, she worked part-time at the Valley Animal Hospital in Palmyra as a bookkeeper and receptionist, a job she truly enjoyed. There were always pets in the house from an alligator and snakes but primarily dogs, litters of puppies and cats. The annual family beach week was the highlight of every Summer, a tradition that lasted over 55 years.
Being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother were her most cherished roles. After raising her children, she focused on her grandchildren and was always eager to lend a hand as needed. She particularly loved babies and she could not resist any opportunity to hold and care for the latest member in her family. During this time in her life she also volunteered at Londonderry Village in many roles and developed friendships with many residents.
Moving to Londonderry Village in 2004 was a natural transition where Jeannine and Glenn enjoyed many relaxing years traveling, volunteering and playing cards. She loved playing cards with multiple groups of friends and always talked about the fun and laughter had by all. As her children, we had to check her busy card schedule before visiting, often hearing "Don't you remember that is the night I play Hand and Foot!".
Jeannine was a fantastic cook and baker, delicious pies were her specialty and always a hit at family events. She will be remembered by many as a tireless person, always willing to help others in a time of need with both her time and often a fresh baked cherry or shoofly pie.
Jeannine is survived by her four children: Linda W., wife of Dr. J. Edward Dagen of Carlisle, John H. Weaver and wife Michele of Hershey, Jeffrey L. Weaver and wife Karen of Hershey, Lori A., wife of Dr. Gregory C. Fanelli of Danville, PA. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Glenn Stoner, and 3 brothers.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 11:00 AM, at the Londonderry Village DiMatteo Worship Center, 1200 Grubb Rd., Palmyra, PA. with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Phillips officiating. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Good Samaritan Fund, Londonderry Village, 1200 Grubb Rd., Palmyra, PA 17078.
