Jeffrey Allen Gardner, 58, of Knoxville, Illinois died suddenly Sunday, June 22, 2025, at his home.
He was born June 9, 1967, in Galesburg, Illinois to Allen R. and Clara Jo (Scott) Gardner. He married Lori Carlson on May 4, 1991, in Knoxville.
Surviving is his wife of 34 years, Lori Gardner of Knoxville, a daughter, Tarryn Gardner of Peoria, Illinois, four sisters, Trisha Butler of Galesburg, Kathy (and Lance) Mitchell of Knoxville, Karen (and Floyd) Lamberson of Silver Lake, Wisconsin, and Karri (and Jim) Pendergast of Galesburg, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Ty Gardner on April 16, 2022.
Jeff graduated from Knoxville High School in 1985. He was a member of the 4x800 state champion team in 1985. He then served in the United States Army from 1985 to 1988 in the 101st Infantry Battalion. Following his service, Jeff was initiated into the Local #25 Plumbing and Pipe Fitters Union apprenticeship in 1993 and became a journeyman plumber in 1999. Jeff was a proud member of the Local #25 Union for 32 years and his accomplishments included serving on the Finance Committee from 2015 - 2018.
Jeff was a true friend to many, but his best friend was his wife, Lori. Together they enjoyed traveling, being outdoors with their dogs, taking side by side rides with friends, and spending time in the home they built 17 years ago. Jeff had many accomplishments in his life, and most of all was proud of being a father to his children, Ty and Tarryn.
Jeff never knew a stranger, he was a great conversationalist and always had a funny story or witty joke. Jeff had a bold sense of humor and was often a prankster. Even with his lighthearted ways, Jeff was a friend in times of need and would not hesitate to do a favor for anyone who needed him.
Jeff was always surrounded by friends and had a zest for life. He was a fantastic cook and enjoyed hosting on the weekends. After retiring from the Union, Jeff spent much of his free time on the golf course and enjoyed an occasional Busch Light. Jeff was a fan of the Chicago Bears and Cubs, as well as Notre Dame football, and he loved attending games with his family and friends.
As Jeff requested, we will celebrate the man who was always "the life of the party" with one last party. A celebration of life will be from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Big Catz Barbeque in Knoxville. Military rites will begin at 4:00 p.m. by the Knox County Honor Guard with sharing of memories and stories following the military rites. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Huntington's Disease Society of America. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Cremation will be accorded, per his request. Online condolences may be shared at www.h-p-w.com.
