Jeff Jordan Obituary
Jeff Arthur Jordan, 68, was born in Gary, Indiana on September 25, 1955 to Jeff and Lobelia Jordan.
Jeff graduated from Roosevelt High School in Gary, IN in 1974. He obtained a bachelor's degree in business from Indiana University Northwest and a master's degree in computer science from DePaul University. Jeff had a 30-year career as a computer programmer and IT consultant working for companies such as McDonalds, CNA Insurance, and Blue Cross & Blue Shield.
Jeff was a Deacon at Beyond 4 Walls Christian Center in Gary, Indiana, an avid community activist, and a long-term adjunct professor of IT at both Indiana University Northwest and Purdue Northwest (formerly Purdue Calumet).
Jeff was very active in closing the digital divide. He was an active member of Black Data Processing Associates (BDPA), both nationally and locally. In addition to serving leadership roles in the Chicago chapter, he was the founding President of the Northwest Indiana chapter. He also taught an annual computer programming course which introduced teens to the field of IT and computer programming. The class culminated in a trip to the National BDPA Conference and participation in its annual computer competition.
He later transitioned from the corporate sector to become an entrepreneur and launched JA Jordan Enterprises, a freight transport company where he served as CEO/Owner & Operator. It was a role that he truly loved as he was able to move freight out on the open road, help others, and spend time with family and friends across the country along his travels.
Jeff also placed a high priority on his family. For 20 years, he served as a lead facilitator and planner for the annual Newton County Picnic, a role that was fueled by a commitment that he made to his uncle Thomas Williams prior to his passing to ensure that the picnic would live on after Thomas' death. In 2006, Jeff spearheaded the 35th annual picnic, which would mark the first time the event was held in Newton, Mississippi. The home of the founding families of the picnic.
Jeff was preceded in death by his birth mother, Lula Daniel; his parents, Jeff and Lobelia Jordan; and his brother, Jim Daniel.
He is survived by an aunt, Alberta Graham; sister, Vanessa Wells; his loving wife Gwennita Jordan; son, Emery (Amanda) Jordan; daughters, Jennifer and Christina Jordan; three grandchildren, Jalen, Gabriella & Jaxen Jordan; three grand kitties, Mr. Mir, Ari, and Amber, two grand dogs, Chance and Charlie, and his extended family, church family, and many dear friends.

I was just told of Jeff´s passing today and I was shocked. We were neighborhood friends he on 26th and Jackson and I on 26th and Monroe. He was a very quiet and friendly guy even in the early years. I express my condolences and sympathies to Jeff´s family and friends. We have lost a good one.

My condolences to the family.
Jeff was a quiet person in high school. He had a big laugh that would make others around him laugh. Jeff was a very caring person and would speak up if he felt others were being wrong. Jeff was a good friend. Jeff worked tirelessly on the 50th reunion committee offering his help where needed. Jeff called me from the Grand Geneva Resort while touring the location for the reunion. He allowed me to speak with the representative to make sure he didn´t forget anything. Jeff was thorough that way. He always called me with different classmates on the phone, so I could get their contact information. Our final call was January 29th with one more classmate. Jeff wished me a belated happy birthday, and he told me one last "dad" joke. Jeff loved his family and his business, and never stopped talking about them. He would always say, you never know where life will take you, be kind to everyone. I believe Jeff lived his life that way. Jeff will be missed.

With deepest sympathy,
Carolyn Griffin-Simmons and Family
