Jeffrey Alan Callaway, 65, affectionately known as Jeff, passed away on December 28, 2023 in his hometown of Shreveport Louisiana after a heroic battle with cancer. He was born to John Ross Callaway, Sr. and Virginia Davidson Callaway on March 17, 1958 in Dubach, Louisiana. Jeff lived the majority of his life in Shreveport.

A “Celebration of Life” Memorial Service for Jeff will be held on Monday, January 8, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana. A visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. before the service at Rose-Neath. Jennifer Tufer, Jeff’s sister, will be sharing precious memories of Jeff with the congregation. Officiating the service will be Brother Mike Stowell.

His early life was filled with the joys of simple childhood with vacations in the Ozarks, visits with Maw Maw and Paw Paw in Ruston and extended family in Lake Village, Arkansas. Jeff was a graduate of Southwood High School, class of 1976. He lived briefly in Colorado and Kentucky before returning to Shreveport to devote himself to the care of our ailing mother to whom he was completely devoted.

Jeff’s hobbies were a reflection of his curious and inquisitive personality. He was a voracious reader and a history enthusiast. He would find a book, a TV show or a song and would become obsessed. But there was one hobby in which he was completely obsessed. Everyone who knew Jeff knew how passionate he was about horseracing, a passion he shared with his brother, Johnny. Even in ill health, he found joy in the majesty of the sport, from the stories of the trainers and jockeys to the stories of the horses. He took pride in doing his own research and doing his own handicapping of the races.

Jeff is preceded in death by his parents, John Ross Callaway, Sr. and Virginia Davidson Callaway; and his brother, John Ross Callaway Jr. Jeff is survived by his sister, Jennifer Tufer and husband, Timothy Tufer; his sister-in-law, Violet Callaway; his nieces and nephews, Marilyn Jackson and her partner, Randy Hodge, Joanie Spinks and her husband, William Spinks, Bridget Sanders and her wife, Amy; Zachary Tufer, Megan Tufer and Maxwell Tufer; great nephew, Jackson Spinks; aunts, Nell Reeves and Minnie Bell Crow; Uncle Roy Davidson and wife, Shirley, and numerous cousins and extended family members.

The family would like to express special thanks to Violet Callaway for the wonderful care and compassion she showed to Jeff during his illness. Her devotion to our family is remarkable.
