Jeffrey Dean Hales

 

Jeffrey Dean Hales of Kaysville, Utah left his mortal ministry and welcomed in to the loving arms of his Savior and parents on October 28, 2023 at the age of 71, surrounded closely by his wife, five sons and daughters-in-law.

Dean was born November 30, 1951 in Burbank, California, the son of William Parley and Doraine Hales.  Dean was a proud Davis High Dart graduating in 1970. While there, he was the Student Body President, and played Football and Basketball along with his twin brother Dana. He won a lot of games and intimidated a lot of people but the biggest score of his life was winning the heart of his lovely wife, Kathy Francis, as they were married Aug 15, 1973 in the Salt Lake Temple.  They recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in August.

He went on to play football at the University of Utah for one year before serving a 2-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Ontario Quebec Mission. Upon returning he played four more years for, and attended, Weber State University in pursuance of an Accounting degree. Together, Dean and Kathy were blessed with five handsome boys: Shawn, Ryan, Chad, Kyle and Brett. He’d never admit to which was his favorite because we all knew his favorites were his Daughters-in-law, Melanie, Shanna, Kylee, Jill and Britney.

Dean spent 40 years working in real estate and ran his concrete foundation repair business (Concrete Commodities) on the side. Every son and most grandkids at one time or another were used as inexpensive labor but he claims the real payment was in life experiences.

Dean and Kathy lived in Layton, Utah for 18 years then proceeded north to Ogden, Utah for nine years before finally moving back to their roots and settling down in Kaysville, Utah. Everywhere they’ve lived they’ve established many friendships and created many memories. They strongly desired their sons to earn their Eagle Scout, serve a church mission, and marry in the Temple.

One of Dean’s passions was traveling the world with Kathy and soaking in the rich histories of Egypt, Paris, Israel, Amsterdam, China and Portugal. When they needed a quick getaway, they’d retreat to Yellowstone National Park for wildlife encounters and RV living.

Those that knew him well knew they could find him during Mondays lunch hour at Ligori’s with an order of cheesy bread, or Friday mornings conspicuously blending in to the tall grass of Glen Eagle GC hunting golf balls completely undetected in his hunter green shirt and matching hat, or Saturday afternoons in the SE corner of LaVell Edwards Stadium cheering loudly for his beloved BYU Cougars or Sunday evenings immersed in family dinner and competitive game play.

He loved to banter with the best of them but when it came to his Faith and his Family, he never waivered. He’d proudly and boldly share his testimony about the Savior Jesus Christ who he came to love and adore.  As a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served as an ordinance worker in the Bountiful Utah Temple and in various church callings. Dean's steadfast commitment to his faith stands as a reminder that conversion to the Gospel of Jesus Christ can lead to a life of profound meaning and positive impact.

Dean is survived by his wife, Kathy, and children: Shawn (Melanie), Ryan (Shanna), Chad (Kylee), Kyle (Jill) and Brett (Britney) and his 17 grandchildren: Jayden, Bryson, Avary, Kyden, Carter, Karsen, Gabrielle, Ashlyn, Tatum, Addisen, Blake, Easton, Krew, Kynlee, Skye, Hadley and Graham. He is also survived by his brothers; Don W. (Susan) Hales, J. Dana (Marilyn) Hales, David A. (Kathy) Hales and James F. (Diane) Hales. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is loved by all who knew him and will be remembered eternally in many hearts.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Oak Hollow Ward, 1520 Fox Pointe Dr., Kaysville, Utah.  Friends may visit with family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd., and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the service.

 

 Interment will be held at the Kaysville City Cemetery 500 E. Crestwood Rd, Kaysville, Utah.
