Jeffrey I. Lieber, of McHenry, passed away surrounded by family on September 1, 2025.
Jeff was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He received his Bachelor of Science from the New York Institute of Technology in New York City, then moved to Chicago, where he earned his Master of Arts at Columbia College.
Jeff spent his career in communications, working as a producer and director for corporate productions and events. He devoted more than 25 years to Allstate Insurance and another eight years to Underwriters Laboratories, where he was recognized with several awards for his exceptional work.
Beyond his professional career, Jeff had a passion for architecture, design, and construction. He designed and helped build two family homes and later served as a general contractor to build a third after his retirement. He loved bringing his ideas to life on paper and watching them take shape in real construction.
Jeff also loved boating and time at the family’s lake home in central Wisconsin, where sunsets on the water were cherished family memories. He enjoyed being with people, telling stories, and watching movies, always paying close attention to the soundtracks that brought stories alive. He loved animals, especially the family’s small dogs, and could never pass up deli food, pickles, desserts (ice cream was his favorite!).
In retirement, Jeff gave his time generously to his community. He served on the board of the Legend Lakes Homeowners Association and volunteered as an election judge for McHenry County.
He is survived by his wife, Angela (Festag) Lieber, whom he married on September 15, 1973, in Chicago; his daughters, Karin Lieber Moan of Crystal Lake and Deborah (Bill) Ehardt of Kenosha, Wisconsin; his grandchildren, Vincent Moan, Benjamin Ehardt, and Liliana Ehardt; his brother, Martin Lieber; his brother-in-law, Gero Festag; and his niece, Beth (Lieber) Herbert.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Frieda (Schmulowitz) Lieber; his sister-in-law, Ann Lieber; his brother-in-law, Eckhard Festag; and his sister-in-law, Monica Daugherty.
