Jeffrey Scott Phillips

Jeff Phillips, a quick witted and fun-loving personality, passed away on April 12, 2025, in an auto accident returning from Cycleland Family Park where the family spent many weekends dirt bike riding and camping. Jeff had been enjoying retirement since 2016 after 30 years of service to Baker Hughes.
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, to Samuel Nathan Phillips and Peggy Thornsberry, his early life included upkeep on the family farm, playing on school football and baseball teams, and enjoying tennis, watersports, and more with his siblings. His love for all things motorized started early and he often cruised around on motorcycles or in his old Chevy truck.
Jeff attended University of Missouri Rolla (Missouri S&T) where he was in the Kappa Alpha fraternity and graduated with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. His career with Baker Hughes took him all over the world, including time living in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, Muscat, Oman, and Aberdeen, Scotland before raising his children in The Woodlands, Texas with his wife of 34 years, Mary Phillips. He held many roles during his time with Baker managing several teams and was proud of his achievements including multiple US patents. He would often share memories of time spent overseas with expats wadi-bashing, exploring, or celebrating various holidays.
Jeff is survived by Mary Phillips, his former spouse, and their children: Jessica Phillips, Neal Phillips, and Kylie (Art) Arias. He is also survived by his siblings Judith Kirby, Jayne (Mark) Calvert, and Jonathan (Cindy) Phillips as well as his first grandchild Eli Arias, and two granddogs.
Jeff lived life big and was always at the ready with a joke or witty comment. While he worked hard, he played even harder! Summer was spent at the lake, cliff jumping, pulling kids behind the boat, and smoking his famous ribs. Fall was spent camping and riding the trails at Cycleland, deer hunting with nephews, and cheering on the Chiefs. During Winter or Spring in Texas, he would hit the golf course, take his motorcycle out in search of street tacos, or return to Missouri for morel mushroom season. Anytime family was around he loved to cook, play cards, cut loose, and host.
Most recently Jeff enjoyed listening to live music in New Braunfels, playing frisbee golf with his kids, spoiling his granddogs with treats, and traveling. Not long ago he visited Corpus Christi, Big Bend National Park, Alaska, Mexico, and San Diego. Hawaii and Ireland were up next and he often mentioned that a Baja motorcycle adventure was still on his "bucket list".
His involvement with the following organizations over the years brought him joy: Trail Riders of Houston, Cycleland Family Park, Woodlands Church, and Society of Petroleum Engineers.
Jeff will be remembered for his sense of humor and larger-than-life personality. His loved ones find peace knowing he is now reunited with family members who entered the gates of heaven before him. He was predeceased by his parents Nathan and Peggy Phillips, his first-born brother, John Nathan as well as two family dogs Pepper & Clutch. All dogs go to heaven, right?
Jeff was down to earth and appreciated the simple things in life, therefore instead of a formal memorial we plan to hold a small gathering later this year to place his ashes in the family cemetery in Brumley, Missouri.
May Jeff's memory be kept alive and his legacy live on through those who knew and loved him. His thoughtfulness and generosity, often hidden behind his ability to make light of any situation, did not go unnoticed. Cremation arrangements for Mr. Phillips were handled through Broussard's Crematorium under the direction of Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont.
