Jennie Viola (Franklin) Cron passed away peacefully on June 12, 2025, in her daughter's arms. Jennie was born on March 1, 1918, to Elmer and Iva (Schmidt) Franklin. She lived an extraordinary 107 years, embodying resilience and determination. As the fifth of eight children, Jennie's early life was rich with family and love. A proud graduate of Midland High School, she made history as the first in her family to earn a diploma, a milestone that set the stage for her remarkable journey.
On December 16, 1936, Jennie married Oliver L. Cron, a dedicated farmer. Transitioning from city life to the rural lifestyle of a farmer's wife in Freeland, she quickly adapted and became an integral part of making their farm thrive. In 1937, the family welcomed their first daughter, Phyllis Irene, followed by Patricia Ann in 1941, completing their family.
Oliver passed away on February 15, 2005, leaving Jennie to navigate life on her own. In 2007, she made the difficult decision to sell the farmhouse to her grandson, marking a new chapter as she returned to the city of Midland. There, she moved into an apartment and became an active member of the Midland Community Center. Her involvement in the community, particularly her church, Poseyville United Methodist Church, brought her joy and fulfillment. It was there that she met Bob Moe, who became her dear companion. Together, they shared countless happy moments, dining out, watching movies, and volunteering within the community.
Jennie's hobbies were a reflection of her vibrant spirit. She enjoyed assembling puzzles, crafting handmade slipper booties, blueberry picking, riding bikes to Jam Store, and playing card games. Her love for collecting dolls and exploring thrift stores kept her engaged and fulfilled. Remarkably, she even walked the Mackinaw Bridge at the age of 92 surrounded by 30 of her family members and five generations, showcasing her determination to stay active. Family was paramount to Jennie; she took great pride in her lineage, celebrating several five-generation combinations.
Survived by her daughter Patricia (Bob) Draves and son-in-law James Holcomb, Jennie's legacy continues through her grandchildren: Lynda (Michael) Bruton, Robert (Karen) Draves, James (Wendy) Holcomb, Bryan (Jheri) Draves, Kurtis (Cindy) Holcomb, Brenda (Roy) Small, Rebecca (Jeffrey) Hare, Karen (Patrick's widow) Draves, and Jennifer (Clayton) Holcomb-Brown. She also leaves behind several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, along with her cherished companion Bob Moe.
