Jennifer Ferris-Hoagland

Jennifer Ferris-Hoagland, 50, of Clark, NJ, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones, after courageously battling stage IV cancer for two years.

Born in Rahway and raised in Colonia, Jennifer built a life centered on caring for others, laughter, and love. She graduated from Rowan University with a B.S. in Elementary Education and a concentration in Psychology, where she was also a proud member of the AEPhi Sorority. She later earned her M.A. in Counselor Education from Kean University, continuing her lifelong commitment to helping people grow and succeed.

Jennifer worked as a Teaching Assistant in the Self-Contained Life Skills Classrooom at Livingston High School and was also a Registered ABA Therapist, Certified Elementary School Teacher, and Certified School Counselor. Her patience, warmth, and sense of humor made her a natural in every role she took on - whether with students, colleagues, or friends.

She was an avid reader who loved art, music, and travel. At home, Jennifer found the greatest joy in time spent with her husband, Matt, and their beloved dogs. Together, they shared a special devotion to adopting senior dogs - each one lucky enough to know her gentle heart. Recently, the couple welcomed a spirited three-year-old French Bulldog named Lou, who brought her endless smiles.

Jennifer's strength, kindness, and wit shone through every part of her life. Even through her illness, she faced each day with courage, humor and love - inspiring everyone around her.

Jennifer is survived by her loving husband, Matt Hoagland; her mother, Barbara (Pakos); brothers Joe Ferris and Simon Ferris (Shanna Quackenbush); sister-in-law Maureen Babcock (Jerry Babcock) and their sons John and Jack; her father-in-law John J. Hoagland Jr., and many friends. She was predeceased by her father, Joseph Ferris.

A remembrance will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Lehrer-Gibilisco Funeral Home located at 275 West Milton Avenue in Rahway, NJ, Family and friends will gather to share stories, laughter, and memories, just the way she would have wanted.

Jennifer will be remembered always for her kindness, humor, and the light she brought to everyone who had the joy of knowing her.
