Mr. Jere Monroe Smith, 92, of Box Springs, GA, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his family. A graveside service will be held at 12:00PM on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at Kennesaw Memorial Park, 1306 Whitlock, Ave., Marietta, GA, 30064. The family will greet friends at Way-Watson Funeral Home in Buena Vista, GA, on Friday, September 12, 2025, from 6:00PM – 8:00PM. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Mike Miller, Ethan Hedden, Scott Dick, Paul Dick, Augustus L. Shope, III, and Thomas Ellis.
Mr. Smith was born March 27, 1933, in Atlanta, GA, to Thomas Theophilus and Pinky Bertha Samantha McIntosh Smith. A graduate of Berry High School, he was in the Sports Hall of Fame for Track. He served honorably in the United States Army. Mr. Smith was a hard worker and had worked his whole life. He worked in construction and was a contractor for Seven Springs Estates before his retirement. He enjoyed working outside and after his retirement, he could be found working on his farm and with his livestock. Mr. Smith was a wonderful father and loved his family, especially his daughters, granddaughter, and his dog, Ellie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary Virginia Mourfield Smith, his brother Thomas Luther Smith, and his sister, Ethel Marie Smith Bryan.
He is survived by two daughters, Sheri Smith and Cindy Dick, both of Box Springs, GA; a granddaughter, Tiffany Wenthe (Candice); great-grandchildren, Maverick Stuffel, Myah Silas, and Memphis Silas; his adopted grandchildren, Holly Dick, Paul Dick, and Carlie Hedden; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Way-Watson Funeral Home of Buena Vista, GA, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
