Jerome D. "Jerry" Comes

Plainville – Jerome D. "Jerry" Comes, 77, a resident of Plainville for the past forty-seven years, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at home, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Valerie A. (Metters) Comes.
Born on August 20, 1946, in Randolph, Vermont, Jerry was the loving son of the late Wentworth C. Comes and Elizabeth (Welch) Comes. He grew up in Hancock, VT, and graduated from Rochester High School in 1964. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, serving his country proudly for four years. Jerry was honorably discharged on November 8, 1968, with the rank of Boatswain's Mate Third Class Petty Officer.
Jerry continued his education by earning an associate's degree from Rhode Island Junior College (now Community College of Rhode Island), a bachelor's degree from Rhode Island College, and a master's degree from Assumption College. He dedicated twenty-five years of his life to working as a mental health counselor at the Neponset River House, a service of Riverside Community Care in Norwood, MA, where he positively impacted the lives of countless patients.
A man of strong Catholic faith, Jerry was a longtime communicant of Saint Martha's Parish in Plainville. In his spare time, he enjoyed crafting model boats, witnessing sunrises and sunsets on Cape Cod (particularly in Chatham), painting, and was an avid reader. His favorite moments, however, were those spent with his wife and daughter.
In addition to his beloved wife, Valerie, Jerry is survived by his devoted daughter, Shiloh Comes of Plainville; his sister, Audrey Zullo of Florida; and his two brothers, Wentworth Comes, Jr., and Roger Comes, both of Vermont. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews to mourn his passing. Jerry was predeceased by his brother, Carl Comes.
Visitation, to which relatives and friends are kindly invited, will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2024, from 8:30 to 10:30 AM at the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleboro. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM at Saint Martha's Parish, 227 South Street, Plainville. United States Coast Guard Honors will be accorded outside the church at the conclusion of the Mass, in recognition of Jerry's service to his country. Interment will be held privately at a later date in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
