“A great soul serves everyone all the time. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again.”

—MAYA ANGELOU

Jerome Kearn Jones II, loving husband, father, family man and friend, departed this world on June 18, 2024. Jerome was born November 30, 1978 in Washington, D.C. to Jerome Kearn Jones, Sr. and Yetevear Turner-Jones. After the passing of his mother, he was raised by his grandmother Geneva Jones. She was the inspiration and namesake of his business, Geneva Tech. Jerome's upbringing was heavily influenced by his aunt Avis Shieder and uncle John Jones.

A native Washingtonian, Jerome attended and graduated from D.C. public schools. He continued his education at Prince George’s Community College and sharpened his IT knowledge with multiple certifications and trainings. His technology expertise grew throughout his 25-year career in IT and most recent role as a software quality assurance engineer and manager. Jerome was also a savvy businessman through his skills in property management, real estate, investment, and rehabilitation.

Jerome met Dionne Nesby in 1997 while they both worked at Landover Mall. The two married on April 18, 2010. On October 19, 2013, their beautiful daughter, Laila Jones, was born. The family unit not only enjoyed their quality time with each other, but were heavily inclusive to extended family, friends, and colleagues.

Jerome’s love for his family was the core of his being. He bonded with his relatives through his love of sports, movies, and technology. Rony was also well versed in politics, religion, and conspiracy theories. Jerome also encouraged altruism in his daughter Laila. For the past 3 years, they fed the homeless on Thanksgiving mornings. He wanted his daughter to understand the meaning of service and giving back.

Jerome was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome K. Jones, Sr. and Yetevear Turner-Jones, his grandparents, Alfred Jones, Sr. and Geneva Jones, James and Gertrude Turner, uncles Bernard Jones, Alfred Jones, Jr., and Alvin Jones Sr., aunt Vertener Turner-Davis and nephew, Michael D. Smith.

He leaves behind his wife Dionne Nesby Jones, daughter Laila, sisters Javonya D. Morton (Gerald) and Nicole Jones, niece Kennedi Nicole Banks, great nephew Aiden Frazier, aunt Avis Jones Shieder (James), uncle John Jones (Renèe), cousins Lisa Stokes (Ronald), Alvin Jones, Jr. (Maya), Alfred Jones, III, Alesha Hernandez (Robert), Mary Winston, Cambridge Jones, Janèe Jones, and a host of family, friends, and colleagues.

As the Greek historian Thucydides wrote, “What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments but what is woven into the lives of others.” Jerome has woven an enduring pattern of love in the hearts of his loved ones.
