Jerrel Russell McKenzie, a man whose heart was as expansive as his smile, passed away on August 21, 2025, at the age of 42. Born on October 20, 1982, in Festus, Missouri, Jerrel was a beacon of joy and friendship to everyone he met. He was the cherished son of Clayton and Dawn McKenzie, a devoted father to Rylan, Jaykob, and Mattie, a loving brother to Jerred and Joel, and a beloved grandfather to Shamajay McKenzie.

Jerrel's life was a testament to love and service. He was a man who never met a stranger and treated everyone he encountered as a friend. His commitment to his faith was unwavering, and he lived his life as a servant of God, always faithful to others. This dedication extended to his work, where Jerrel was known for his friendly demeanor and his willingness to lend a helping hand whenever it was needed.

Family was the cornerstone of Jerrel's life. He strove to be the best that he could be, a pillar of strength and support for his parents, his children, and his brothers. His love knew no bounds, and he often expressed it through his laughter and his ability to make others laugh with him. His grandson, Shamajay, was a particular source of pride and joy, and Jerrel cherished every moment they shared.

Jerrel had a zest for life that was contagious. He was an avid fisherman, loved music and animals, and he took great pleasure in capturing the beauty of nature and wildlife through his photography. NASCAR was more than a hobby for Jerrel; it was a yearly tradition. He loved the thrill of the race and the camaraderie of the fans, and he looked forward to working at the events each year. His presence at the track will be deeply missed by his fellow NASCAR enthusiasts.

Jerrel is survived by his adoring family, including his brothers Jerred and Joel with his wife Courtney, his children, his grandson, and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his beloved Madre Karla Santiago and his lifelong friends Justin Grady, Josh Santiago, and Clayton Green. Jerrel was preceded in death by his loving grandparents, Carol Prosser, Carl and Peggy Phillips, and Jerrel Edward McKenzie, who all instilled in him the values of family and faith that he carried throughout his life.

As we bid farewell to Jerrel we celebrate a life lived with an open heart and open arms. His laughter, his kindness, and his unwavering spirit will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.

The McKenzie family will have a Celebration of Life at a later date.
