Jerrod "Jerry" Howard

Jerrod "Jerry" Howard, age 80, a longtime resident of Staten Island, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2026. He was born on Thursday, September 20, 1945, and was raised in the Fort Greene section of Brooklyn. Jerry was one of eleven children born to John and Marie Howard. Those early years in a bustling household helped form the strong character he carried throughout his life.

Jerry graduated from Wingate High School in Brooklyn and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Following his service, he spent his working life in construction and later worked in security at the Helmsley Palace during the 1980s.

In his free time, Jerry enjoyed life's simple pleasures. He played in a softball league in Old Bridge, loved visiting Freehold Raceway, and could often be found enjoying a good poker game. Trips to Atlantic City were among his favorite getaways. A huge history buff, Jerrod had a deep appreciation for the past and enjoyed learning and sharing stories about historical events.

Above all, he was known for his hard work and deep commitment to his family, and will be remembered by many.

Jerry is predeceased by the mother of his son, Kathleen Meehan; by his sisters Joan, Janet, Joyce, Juanita, and June; and by his brothers Jack, Jim, Joseph, Connie, and Mike.

Jerry is survived by his loving son, Jerrod Jr., and his fiancée, Lisa Ross; by his caring brother, Jr. Chip Howard, and his wife, Antonette; and by many adoring nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals and Cremation Service, 3377 US Highway 9, Old Bridge, New Jersey.

A funeral service will be held at 7:00 PM on Wednesday at Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home For Funerals and Cremation Service, 3377 US Highway 9, Old Bridge, New Jersey 08857.

Interment will take place at Holy Cross Burial Park, East Brunswick, New Jersey, on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 11:00 AM.
