Jerrod Thomas "JT" Nance, III, 96, passed away on July 8, 2024 in Monroe, NC at the age of 96.
A memorial service will be held Friday, July 12, 2024 at 11:00 AM in Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC. The family will visit with friends and relatives from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM prior to the service.
JT was born to Lillie Mae and Jerrod Thomas Nance Jr. in Concord, NC on November 6, 1927. When he was 17, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was training for the invasion of Japan when the Second World War ended. He served proudly in the South Pacific Theater before returning home to North Carolina. He then enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated in 1951 with a degree in Business Administration.
After graduation, JT worked for several textile mills before moving to Kings Mountain, NC. There, he walked into a bank to set up a checking account and walked out having met Martha Randall, a beautiful bank teller who would become his wife of 67 years. After marrying, JT and Martha established their home in Monroe, NC in 1960. There they started their family and JT spent more than thirty years at Tool Service Engineering/Scott Aviation. JT was a committed member of First Baptist Church of Monroe and was still driving himself and Martha there weekly until he became ill in late June.
JT is survived by his wife, Martha and his son, Randy Nance (Lisa Nance). He was preceded in death by his parents and his only sister, Cassandra. JT was the beloved PopPop of Jessica Wood (Garrett Wood) and Jerrod Nance (Ashley Nance). He was also the great-grandfather of Merritt, Jackson, Lawson and Raylan. His steadfast love and practical guidance will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
