Dr Jerry Wayne Clever

Dr. Jerry W. Clever, 73, Chambersburg, passed away peacefully October 10, 2024, at the Mercy House after a short battle with cancer. Jerry was the son of Herman and Margaret (Fitz) Clever, the youngest of 12, born July 13, 1951, in Waynesboro, PA.
Most of Jerry's young life was spent as a student of the Milton Hershey School. A scholar in academics, master in dry cleaning, he also participated in the glee club and was the editor of the Acroplolis in 1969. After graduating Milton Hershey in 1969, he proceeded to obtain Bachelors in Science from Shippensburg University and later a Master in Social Work and a PHD in Clinic Social Work from Catholic University.
Jerry lived his life to the fullest. From out smarting IBM software, to sitting on the board for International Adoptions traveling to Romania, playing a key role in opening Roxbury Treatment Center, responding to New York on 9/11, down to his simple love for the outdoors. Most will remember Jerry for the times in passing where friends would see him running, biking, swimming or cross country skiing. Jerry was a member of the Chambersburg Road Runners club and enjoyed many hours at the YMCA. Fitness was a big part of Jerry's life until he became ill.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 50 years Liane (Sohns) Clever, children Elizabeth Arter (husband James) and Rebecca, David Clever, Barbara Harshman (husband Aaron Jr.), sister Paula Grove (husband Dick), brother Terry Clever and grandchildren Addison and Anderson Harshman. He is preceded in death by one son John R. Clever and many of his siblings Betty, Lee, Herman, Paul, Dale, Carl, Beverly, George and David.
The family will receive visitors on Monday, October 14, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. at the Sellers Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at The Presbyterian Church of Falling Spring with Rev. Dr. Andrew Hart officiating.
In lieu of flowers due to medical issues, memorial contributions may be made in Jerry's name to Mercy House of Chambersburg.
