Jerry Cook Obituary
Jerry was born on January 23, 1958 in Richlands, VA to the late Alonzo Cook and Ruby June Cook McAllister. He was a wonderful brother, Uncle and Christian and he attended Vansant Church of Christ. Jerry was a former coal miner and all around construction worker.
He enjoyed being with his family and friends, and hunting and fishing were his favorite past times. He loved teaching his favorite grand nieces to fish and shoot archery.
He is survived by his sisters Linda Sue Long of Paducah, KY (Terry) and Brenda June Matney of Tazewell, VA. Aunt Lottie Bailey of Ohio, several cousins, four nieces Carla Cook, Selena Long, Tera Martin, Kim Wolfe, three nephews; Brandon Matney, Justin Matney, and Dennie Lee Matney, three grand nieces, Sydney Martin, Tessa Martin, and Presley, Martin. Special friends and chosen brothers Albert Cook and family and Terry Childress and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo Cook and Ruby June Cook McAllister and stepfather Robert McAllister, his sister Lonia Lou Matney, twin brother Jimmy Cook and nephew Clint James Cook.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at Shortridge Ramey Funeral Home of Oakwood, VA with Evangelist Mike Rife officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens, Cedar Bluff, VA.
There will be a livestream of the funeral services on the funeral homes Facebook page.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm on Sunday January 7th, 2024 at Shortridge Ramey Funeral Home of Oakwood, VA.
Expression of sympathy may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
Active Pallbearers will be John Matney, Brandon Matney, Justin Matney, Albert Cook, Terry Childress, Randy Long, Terry Sexton, Hunter Sparks, Kevin Sparks and Lawrence Jarvis.
