Jerry Allen Dale, 83, died Thursday, March 13, 2025, after a long and brave battle with dementia. He was born April 30, 1941, in Dayton, Ohio to Lois (Treadway) and James Dale. Jerry graduated from Hymera High School in 1959. He then joined the Navy where he spent 10 years, part of which off the coast of Vietnam.

After the Navy he returned to his home state of Indiana and started working for Indiana Bell where he was an installer and line man.

He met and married the love of his life Mary (Winzenread) Grable-Dale of Greenwood in 1975. The single most important thing in his life was his family. He was a doting father, a loyal and loving husband and the best papaw in the world. He never met a stranger and was always there to offer a helping hand. He was kind, humble, gentle and accepting, he never spoke ill of anyone.

He was actively involved in Our Lady of the Greenwood Catholic Church where he served as an usher on Sunday mornings for many years. He was proud of his military service and was very patriotic. He was interested in history and spent many hours reading about the Civil War in particular.

He was an avid Colts, Pacers and Indiana University Basketball fan. He loved camping, blue grass music, good food and cold beer. He played a mean game of Euchre teaching all of his children how to play. He loved spending time playing Kings in the Corner with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife Mary Grable-Dale of Greenwood. He is also survived by his children Andrea Dumas of Greenwood, Vicki (Jeff) Leffler of Greenwood, Mike (Stephanie) Grable of Cincinnati Ohio, Wendy (Cheryl) Maze of Greenwood, Jill (Rick) Boisjolie of Algona Iowa, Jason (Nicole) Grable of Greenwood and Jennifer Dale of Plainfield. Twelve grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and countless nieces and nephews.

Jerry will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery in Indianapolis following a public visitation at 9:30am-11am with mass to immediately follow on Thursday March 20, 2025, at Our Lady of The Greenwood Church, Greenwood, Indiana.

The depth of our love for him can never be expressed. He will live in our hearts forever and we will continue to model our lives in his honor.
