Jerry Dekle 75, of Marble, passed away Monday, April 1, 2024, in an Asheville V.A. medical center. Jerry was a native of Lakeland, Florida and worked for Tampa Electric Company for fifteen years. Jerry served in the United States Air Force and was a Vietnam Veteran.
He moved to Cherokee County in June of 1995. Jerry was a member of Valley River Baptist Church. He was also a member of Andrews V.F.W. Post # 7620, a member of Andrews Masonic Lodge # 529, and Andrews Eastern Star Chapter # 15. Jerry enjoyed collecting model trains, dabbling in woodcarving, operating ham radios, and spending time on lake Chatuge.
He was the son of the late Aubrey Jerome and Sarah Carroll Dekle. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Goodman.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Kathy Dekle of Marble, North Carolina; two daughters, Kristen Higdon and husband, Jeremiah, and Stacey Messer all of Andrews; one son, Philip Dekle of Marble; and one brother, Richard Dekle of California; five grandchildren, Jayla Downs and husband, John Jr., Kyia Lovingood, Jossalyn Higdon, Deacon Higdon, and Hunter Messer; one great-grandson, Calum Downs.
A memorial service was held at 4 pm Sunday, April 7, 2024, at Valley River Baptist Church with the Reverends Roy Phillips and Terry Lowe officiating. Eastern Star Rites were provided by Andrews Eastern Star Chapter # 15 and military honors were provided by Andrews V.F.W. Post # 7620, Murphy American Legion Post # 96 and Hayesville American Legion Post # 532.
The family received friends from 3-3:50 pm on Sunday April 7, 2024, at Valley River Baptist Church prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Kerri Kiker Memorial Scholarship Fund maintained by Family Life Chiropractic Center. The money is given back to the community each year in scholarships to students of Cherokee County and the cities of Blue Ridge and Ellijay.
