With broken hearts, we share the passing of Jerry Reinhard Gertz at the (young, vibrant) age of 86 on April 13, 2025.
He is survived by a loving family, Daughters Jodie (David) and Kelly (Joe), Sons Jayson and Dennis (Teri). 17 Grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, sister Judy (John), nieces and many, many friends. Jerry was predeceased by parents Henry and Edna, Wife Kimberly and Daughter Denise.
Captain Jerry spent the last 50 years running tour boats in California, Florida, Puerto Rico and still at the time of his death on the Erie Canel in New York. Erie Canal Cruises was created by Jerry when trying to be closer to his New York family, especially his mom who lived to 100. As the business grew, he designed and oversaw the building of a 120-passenger boat. Prior to his boating career, he has successful careers on Wall Street, designing and construction pools, real estate and operating a Christmas tree farm. Jerry Tried to retire 4 times and failed each time.
Jerry defined his life by love of many things- family and friends, hard work, laughter, music, dancing and travel. He was a lifelong learner, voracious reader, trivia contest master and museum goer. Jerry lit up every room he walked into. No one loved life more or lived it better or more generously. Oh, the stories he shared. He is missed so much by so many.
As he requested, there will not be a service, but there will be many a toast in many a place in his honor.
