Gerald "Jerry" Hechinger, 87, of Martinsville, passed away on April 6, 2025. He was born on July 9, 1937 in Indianapolis to the late Francis and Marie Hechinger. Jerry attended Bridgeport Grade School, Ben Davis High School and Purdue University. He served 9 years on active duty in the United States Army, with tours in Germany and Iran retiring in 1988 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Jerry retired in 1997 from the Naval Air Warfare Center after 40 years of service. He was also a lifetime amateur radio operator (W9HRO). Jerry was preceded in death by his loving wife, Doris Hechinger; sister, Frances Smith. A Celebration Of Life will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025 at 5:00 pm in Hampton-Gentry Funeral Home where friends may visit from 3:00 pm until the service time of 5:00 pm. Survivors include his children, Harold (Barbara) Hechinger, Christina (Tim) Smith and Stefanie (Kipp) Cain; step child, Carmen (Roland) Naak; brother, Frederick Hechinger; grandchildren, Samantha Smith, Justine Smith and Nicole Cain.
