Jerry LaMotta Obituary
Jerry M. LaMotta, lovingly known as Butch, a lifelong resident of Stamford, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2025. He was 66 years old.
Born in Stamford on April 11, 1959, Butch was the beloved son of Sandra (Robinson) LaMotta and the late Jerimiah LaMotta. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many, remembered for his kindness, humor, and unwavering love for family and community.
Butch graduated from Rippowam High School and built a long career as a lead engineer at Accurate Lock. Beyond work, his true passion was baseball. For more than 45 years, he dedicated countless hours to the Stamford Babe Ruth Baseball League, where he coached and umpired-most memorably coaching his own children. On any given evening, you could find Butch down at Cubeta, whether on the field coaching, behind the plate umpiring, or simply spending time with friends.
A die-hard fan of the Yankees, Giants, Rangers, and Knicks, Butch's love of sports was matched only by his devotion to his family. He leaves behind his children, Emily Perez (John) and Brett LaMotta (Alyssa); his mother, Sandra LaMotta; his sister, Debbie Dudley (Jim); his former spouse, Debbie LaMotta; his step-daughters, Janelle and Sarah; and his cherished grandchildren, Kaya, Mason, Giavanna, and Luna. He is also survived by his many nieces, nephews, and his faithful best friend, Pup.
In addition to his father, Butch was predeceased by his brother, Michael LaMotta.
Family and friends may call on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Leo Church, 24 Roxbury Road, Stamford.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Jimmy Fund, honoring Butch's lifelong love of baseball and his generous spirit.

Butch was the definition of a volunteer. Great guy. As a Norwalk Babe Ruth opponent, he´s probably the one guy I wouldn´t have minded losing to!

To the LaMotta and Stamford Babe Ruth Families,
I am so sorry to hear of Butch´s passing. I had the pleasure of working with Butch for many years in my role as Recreation Superintendent. He was a very good guy to work with who always had the best interests of the kids in the BR program at heart. He gave a lot of his time and energy helping BR baseball thrive in Stamford.
