Jerald “Jerry” Lane
February 29, 1944- January 7, 2025
Jerry, 80, passed from this life on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at his home in Columbus, MS surrounded by his family.
Jerry grew up in Union, MS where he met the love of his life, Lucie Mae Cole in 1957. They married on September 8, 1963 in Union; they were married for 61 wonderful years. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father to 3 daughters, grandfather to 7, great grandfather to 5, and uncle and great uncle to many.
Growing up in Union, Jerry graduated from and played football for Union High School. Following high school he enlisted in the National Guard and attended East Central Junior College. After college, he began his career working for South Central Bell and later AT&T. He was always very proud to have set-up the telecommunications for the National Republican Convention in Detroit, MI.
Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing Jerry knew about his love for his family, motorcycles, and his Lord and savior, Jesus Christ. Jerry was a devoted member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, the Christian Motorcycle Association (CMA), Patriot Guard Riders, and Thunder Heart Ministries. As a member of Thunder Heart Prison Ministries he visited local prisoners including those on death row and humbly spoke with them about knowing and following Christ and led many to seek forgiveness and accept Jesus as their savior. Jerry was known to many of his fellow bikers as “Tin Man”. Jerry and Lucie loved traveling together on their Goldwing motorcycle across the country, exploring each corner of the United States and all between.
In 2013, Jerry was involved in a near-fatal motorcycle accident where he miraculously recovered from a month-long coma after many prayers and hard dedication to physical therapy. He often told others of his near death experience where he said he had visions of his mother, Mama Grace, and brother, Henry, who shared with him it was not yet his time to come to his final resting place in Heaven.
Jerry never took life too seriously and kept his family and friends laughing, always making fast yet lasting friends everywhere he went. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Grace Lane, brothers Harry, Bill, and Henry Lane; brothers-in-laws Johnny Tabor and John Maroney and sisters-in-laws Ann Lane and Joyce Lane.
He is survived by his wife Lucie Cole Lane of Columbus, daughters: Virginia Hèbert (Curt), Julie Harrell (Kevin), and Tiffany Moore; grandchildren: Lane Hèbert Bielstein, Ashley Hèbert, Dyllan Moore, Kelsee Moore, Kayla Harrell, Cole Harrell, and Trey Hèbert; great-grandchildren: Emery, Rylan, Banks, Ava, and Rivers. Jerry is also survived by siblings and in-laws; Nan Tabor, Joann Maroney, Carl Lane (Barbara), Martha Matthews (Bill), and Lucretia Lane.
