A celebration of life for Jerry Seuferer, 84, of Chariton, will be Monday, December 1, 2025, from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pin Oak Marsh.
Gerald Floyd "Jerry" Seuferer was born July 31, 1941, in Lacona, Iowa to Giles and Blanche Seuferer. Being one of ten children in the family, growing up was full of adventure on the farm southeast of Lacona. He attended school in Lacona graduating in 1959. He served in the Air Force and was stationed in Big Springs, Texas.
Jerry married Kay Harris on October 31, 1965, in Golden Colorado. The couple were blessed with two children: Bret and Karelle. Over the years they enjoyed playing cards with friends and Kay even took him along square dancing. He enjoyed the outdoors going hunting and fishing and raising cattle.
Jerry began working for Hy-Vee in 1963, they then moved to Golden, Colorado near Kay's family for three years. Jerry worked for Coors in the box factory while in Golden. Jerry and Kay moved back to Chariton and Jerry worked for Hy-Vee until retiring. He unloaded the rail cars, worked on the receiving dock, and the cigarette room. Jerry enjoyed working with his many friends at Hy-Vee.
Jerry always knew everyone in the room, and if he didn't, he would before he left. His visits weren't just saying hello, he found out about the person and would remember them the next time he saw them. He enjoyed woodworking and volunteered to make many pieces benefiting different organizations such as the Pin Oak Marsh. Craft shows were also a great time as he was able to visit with all the vendors and customers.
He loved to tease and torment. The guys at coffee were good friends and they savored the opportunity to give someone a hard time. His greatest love was his family. He was proud of his kids and adored his grandchildren, Tanna and Leo; and great grandchild, Miles. Jerry will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Jerry passed away November 21st at the age of 84. He will be greatly missed by son, Bret (Deb) Seuferer; daughter, Karelle (James) Adams; granddaughter, Tanna (Jarin) Higginbotham; great grandson, Miles; and grandson, Leo; siblings: Mervin Seuferer, Dean (Vicki) Seuferer, Roger (Ann) Seuferer, Marilyn (Frank) Smith, Sharon Seuferer, Jeanette (Steve) Jetter, Rose Wood; bonus sister, Carol Oliver; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay; parents: Giles and Blanche; and siblings: Elaine Davis and Bob Seuferer.

I worked with Jerry at the warehouse in 1966-67. Night shift, 6pm - 2am. His job was loading the trailers with the individual items (very FEW pallets) that us 'pullers' brought to the dock. And......'LOAD', he did !! Hardest working man in the place, AND friendliest. Don't remember him without that grin. He was an inspiration to me, with a "Hang In There, Kid", at the ready. Meant a lot to this 17 year old. Proud To Call You My Friend, Jerry. May you REST IN PEACE.
