Jerry Lee Skidmore, lovingly known as "Grandpa" by his family for the past 11 years, passed away peacefully on the morning of June 3, 2025, at the age of 79.
Born on September 18, 1945, in Stanford, Kentucky, Jerry was raised in Broadhead and Mt. Vernon. It was during his time at Berea College that he met the love of his life, JoAnn, and the two were married on March 5, 1965. This past March, they joyfully celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary-a beautiful milestone in a life marked by faith, love, and devotion.
Jerry dedicated over 40 years to the bank data processing industry before retiring to enjoy the simple pleasures he cherished most: cheering on his beloved UK Wildcats, sitting on the front porch, and exploring new places-from the beaches of the Caribbean and Florida coast to the breathtaking beauty of Alaska.
Those who knew Jerry will remember his sharp wit, his fondness for dad jokes, and his unwavering honesty-he always said exactly what he meant and meant what he said. But above all, he was a man of deep faith. A lifelong elder, Bible study teacher, and prayer warrior, Jerry served faithfully in the Christian church, pouring into the lives of countless others. While the full extent of his impact may never be known this side of heaven, we are confident he is now experiencing full restoration in the arms of his Savior-and no doubt, will be there to welcome many more home.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn Skidmore; his son, Scot Skidmore (Jason Green); his daughter, Jamie Masters (Scott); and his grandson, Ethan Masters. He is also cherished by many extended family members and dear friends who were like family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harlan and Eugenia Skidmore; his three half-siblings; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 12:30 p.m. at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Harrodsburg Rd. Burial will take place at Bluegrass Memorial Gardens immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Elevate Christian Church in Lexington, Kentucky, in honor of Jerry's lifelong commitment to sharing the love of Christ.
