Jesse Ojeda, Jr. age 55 of Galveston passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at his residence in Galveston. Funeral services are 11:00am Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 9:00am at the funeral home.
Jesse was born March 26, 1969 in Galveston to Jesse Ojeda, Sr. and Mary Caballero Ojeda. He was a 1987 Ball High School Graduate. He then attended the University of St. Thomas and received his Associate Degree. Jesse worked side by side as a team with his father for over 30 years at the Southern Cotton Compress, a time that he always treasured. He was a 6-year member of the Galveston Park Board of Trustees and was currently the Distribution Supply Manager at McCoy's Building Material for the past 5 years.
Jesse was catholic by faith and remained a good Christian man throughout his life. He was an avid reader and he continually encouraged his family to do the same. He once read through the entire Encyclopedia and instilled a love of knowledge in his family and many friends. It was said that Jesse was a walking encyclopedia and calculator. His knowledge base in many subjects was truly deep. He had a heart that was larger than Life and shared openly with all who needed him, giving of himself tirelessly. To say he had a good work ethic would be a huge understatement. Jesse loved Music and attending live concerts. His bands were TSO, AC/DC, Iron Maiden and Blue October. He was a movie enthusiast and loved going to the movies.
Jesse was preceded in death by his mother Mary Caballero Ojeda; wife Sheila Devona and a niece Justine Oconnel. Survivors include his daughter Jessica Devona and husband Harvey Thomas; son Jason Devona all of Galveston; sisters Sandra Heffernan and husband Joe of Greely, PA, Diana Esparza of Galveston, and Joanna Tovar and husband Rudy of Plumas Lake, CA; brothers Daniel Caballero and wife Alice of Bay City and Joe Cruz Ojeda and wife Trish of Galveston; grandson Ashton Devon and granddaughter Alivia Thomas both of Galveston; nieces and nephews, Joseph Oconnel, Julia Oconnel, Joe Oconnel, Gilbert Tovar, Celeste Tovar, Estevan Tovar, Michelle Estrada, Joe A. Ojeda, Briana Ojeda, Tori Ojeda, Kayla Ojeda, Sylina Caballero, and Daniel Joseph "DJ" Caballero, bonus niece Val Ayala and bonus nephew Jordan Howery; great nieces and great nephews, Angelina, Aaliyah, Bella, Aden, Noah, Annabelle, Julianna Rose, Amelia and Liam.
