Jessie Jerdone Ewell Mendez (Jerry), 93, of Murrysville, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2025. She was born on June 24, 1931, at the family home built by her father in Charlottesville, Virginia. Jerry was the youngest of six children born to the late Mary Louise (Camper) Ewell, and Captain Nathaniel McGregor Ewell, and the last surviving of the family.
Jerry graduated from Mary Washington College, and then met her husband William Eligio Mendez, Jr. while in graduate school at Tulane University. They married in 1954 and remained in a loving relationship for 56 years until his passing. In addition to her husband, Jerry is preceded in death by her daughter, Olivia Rose.
Jerry is survived by her two sons, William E. (Robin) Mendez, and Nathaniel M. (Sandie) Mendez; as well as three grandchildren, Samantha (Mark) Magee, Meghan (Kevin) Fitzgerald, and Benjamin Mendez.
Jerry and her husband were founding members of what became St. Alban's Anglican Church in Murrysville. She was a devout believer in Jesus Christ, and her faith guided her lifestyle and was frequently reflected in her art and poetry.
