Jettie Lee Cumberlander was born June 5, 1936 in Urbancrest, Ohio to the late Elige Sr. and Nina B. Cumberlander. On Friday, February 9, 2024, he entered into eternal rest at OSU Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.
Jettie was baptized at a early age at Union Baptist Church in Urbancrest. He attended Urbancrest School where he played baseball and also spent 2 years at Grove City High School where he played football and ran track. From there, he moved to Newark, NJ with his father and stepmother, Kaynell Cumberlander. He ran track and played football at Barringer High School where he was All-City and All-County for 2 years. After graduation, Jettie went to Central State University until he joined the United States Air Force.
Jettie was preceded in death by his father and mother, Elige Sr. and Nina B. Cumberlander; stepmother, Kaynell Cumberlander; sister, Ethel Ware; four brothers, Fred Armour, Elige Jr., Jack and Alonzo Cumberlander; grandson, Kenneth Cumbie.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his daughters, Hope Cumberlander (Pringre Grove, IL), Anita (Lamine) Moustapha-Mboup (Bloomsfield, NJ), Jewell Hargrove (California); son, Terry Cumberlander (Sleepy Hollow, IL); brothers, Dexter (Cleveland Heights), Lester Richmond, Cleveland), Slyvester Cumberlander (Rahway, NJ); 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
A special thanks to Angela McKenny who was his caregiver for almost 7 years.
Jettie will be missed by all, especially his beautiful smile.
Visitation 1:00 PM and Funeral Service 1:30 PM Friday, February 16, 2024 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave. (one block east of Noe Bixby, turn North on Lonsdale Rd.).
Interment at Glen Rest Memorial Estates.
